Happy New Year! What a great way to kick off the New Year with a New Website! I really like the look of it and so far, have found it extremely user friendly. I am sure that our computer savvy patrons will love it as well, and I am equally sure that many will moan and groan because it is something new. But life in the library goes on!
So sad to say goodbye to Webolution! Looking forward to more fun and games in 2012!

Task #9 - Universal Class
Well there we go again being the most amazing library, ever! I love Universal Class!
I did register, but have not actually signed up for a class. When I have more time there are quite a few that I would like to check out. I think this is so awesome for our patrons! I can see the GED course, and Homeschooling being great courses, along with many others. I will absolutely recommend this to our patrons!
I just love MCPLD!

Task #8 - Spanish LibGuide
I could have done better, I missed 3! Hopefully I will do better on my next test!
I think this is a great resource for our Spanish speaking patrons, but found it a bit difficult to navigate. Maybe if I brushed up on my Spanish I would find it easier, but it's been a while since I've had the daily need to speak it since leaving So. Cal.!

Task #7 - Cloud Computing
Cloud Computing... interesting and innovative! Not sure how much I will be utilizing this concept, but I do see some of it's benefits. Mostly, I don't trust putting all of my stuff out there in the clouds!
Now that I know more about it, I will be able to assist patrons to some extent if the need arises!

Task #6 - Helping Patrons
I am so proud of me, I got all five answers correct! Thankfully, most of the questions that I come across from our patrons are pretty basic and I think for the most part I am able to assist our patrons needs.
My question:
A patron comes in to use the computers to apply for a job. He needs an email account and he has no idea how to set one up. How would you best help him?
A) Assist him with logging in to one of the free email services and wish him good luck!
B) Assist him with logging in to one of the free email services, explain how to sign up, and let him know that you'll be available to help him if he has any questions.
C) Ask the patron sitting at the nearest computer if they could show him how to sign up for an email account.
D) Assist him with logging in to one of the free email services, explain how to sign up, let him know that you'll be available to help him if he has any questions, and give him a flyer explaining our free computer classes.
The best answer is (D)!

Extra Credit #2
How fun... we should play more games!
Bicycling Paul Revere's famous ride on the Minuteman Bikeway would take approximately 1 hour and 11 minutes. I found the answer on google maps by entering directions from Old North Church, Boston, MA to Lexington, MA. This gave me directions for the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway. I clicked on the bicycle icon which gave me the time.
I would love to ride my bike up and down Main Street spending my $100 gift certificate!

Task #5 - Chilton Library
The Chilton Library is extremely user friendly! I was able to access their library by:
1) Clicking on the Research tab. From there, Databases A-Z. Then I clicked on Chilton Library.
2) Once I was in Chilton's I typed in: Year - 1963 Make - Ford Model - F100
3) At that point Chilton's gave me many options for maintaining and repairing that classic step side truck. If only I owned one!
Chilton's is one of the most user friendly databases I have ever accessed and I will highly recommend it to any patron looking for repair manuals!
